Creative Solution to Microplastics
PROBLEM

Microplastics are tiny invisible particles of plastic that are polluting our water system and food chain around the world. In 2014, an estimated 15 to 51 trillion individual pieces of microplastic existed in the ocean, an estimated weight of 93,000 and 236,000 metric tons. The largest source of microplastic particles is generated by doing the laundry with synthetic fabrics, which shed tiny pieces of microplastics and get washed into our waterways.

Companies like Coraball, Filtrol 160™, and Patagonia are introducing filter systems that would potentially resolve this issue during our laundry process.

While all of these solutions are great in catching the microplastics, they all share the same problem in that they do not address the discarding of the filtered out waste. Instead, these particles wind up in the trash can and eventually back into our water systems.

Approach

The existing laundry filter solutions that exist for microplastics are not sufficient to actually solve the large scale issue that is affecting our ecosystem and our bodies. Currently, none of these solutions actually close the loop of the microplastics that consumers collect. This last part of the cycle is Invizzible’s value proposition to the existing market. Rather than having consumers throw away the contents from their filters, that eventually wind up in the waterway anyway, we will actually collect the particles and upcycle them so that they can be transformed into something useful.

Solution

Invizzible wants to provide solutions for closing the loop for microplastics and prevent them from entering our ecosystem.

Invizzible would like to partner with the existing filter companies, and utilize their existing client base to take a step further to collect the microplastics that have been filtered out and actually prevent them from entering landfills. We want to be able to collect as many microplastics from these prospect clients as possible. To do so, we ask that they sign up to our website platform to receive a free pre-paid shipping label to send their collected microplastics and lint back to us. In order to keep the users engaged in sending us their microplastics, our platform will also track points to indicate how much influence they have made as a form of encouraging long term use.
